Broken Social Scene Plan US Invasion

Canada’s amazing 10-piece collective, Broken Social Scene, recently laid siege to New York’s Lower East side, performing two back-to-back shows at Mercury Lounge (June 19/20) and creating an unbelievable buzz throughout the neighborhood. The band, the shows, and the overall buzz surrounding BSS were the talk of Cornerstone/The Fader headquarters in NYC early last week. Those who were lucky enough to get tickets couldn’t help but swap stories and those who didn’t land tix, just sulked and wish they had. I fall in the latter category. Having successfully conquered the NYC hipsters, Broken Social Scene have now set their sites on the rest of the country. The band will embark on a 15-date tour of the US beginning July 9 in Burlington, VT.

The band’s latest album, You Forgot It In People, is a stunning achievement and arguably the best “indie” release of the new year. The album is available now via Arts&Crafts in North America and through Mercury for the rest of the world.

In other BSS news, the band is currently working on videos for “Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl” and “Lover’s Spit.” Go see these guys. I can’t stress it enough. They are amazing.
