Sonic Youth Don’t Knock The Rock, They Headline It

The inaugural Don’t Knock The Rock festival will be held August 15-17 in Hollywood. The event celebrates the historical rock & roll/cinematic roots of Hollywood by taking a look at classic rock & roll films containing quintessential musical performances and footage of trendsetting and influential artists in their prime. Venues that have contributed to the rich musical/film tradition of Hollywood will be utilized for the event, including the Arc Light Theatre on Sunset Boulevard, Amoeba Music, and the Knitting Factory, amongst others. In addition, lectures, record exchanges, and receptions will be held in the key restaurants, clubs, and cafes throughout the city over the course of those three days.

A teenage “rock & roll off” at Amoeba Records will be part of the festivities as well. Teenage bands with members under the age of 18 are invited to enter and win the chance to perform and receive a prize package.

Sonic Youth will headline the festival on Sunday, August 17 at the El Ray Theatre, but musical performances featuring local unsigned bands and surprise guest performances will be taking place throughout the duration of the three day event. Visit the festival’s official website for all the scheduling details.
