Shortlist “Listmakers” Announced: Chirs Martin, Flea, Neptunes, More

Preparations for the third annual Shorlist Music Prize are underway. The first step, the announcement of the Shortlist “listmakers” (or nominating panel) took place this week and a loose timeframe for the final selection ceremony has been laid out. Chris Martin, Flea, Musiq, Pete Yorn, Josh Homme, ?uestlove, Erykah Badu, Dave Matthews, Mos Def, Tom Waits, Tori Amos, Perry Farrell, the Neptunes, and the Chemical Brothers are among the artists selected for the panel. Film directors Spike Jonze and Cameron Crowe, journalists Josh Tyrangiel (Time) and Kim Osorio (The Source), and KCRW’s Nic Harcourt have also been named to the selection panel.


Each of these “listmakers” will select their top albums to create a “Long List” of approximately 100 nominations that will be released in late August, with the announcement of the “Shortlist” of ten finalists coming in mid-September. According to the official website, the 2003 Shortlist Awards Concert details will be announced soon, and plans for a television special and multi-city concert tour are also in the works.

The annual Shortlist Music Prize was created in early 2001 by music industry vets Greg Spotts and Tom Sarig, and is presented by The Shortlist Organization. Past nominees include The Flaming Lips, Ryan Adams, Bj?rk, DJ Shadow, and PJ Harvey. Past winners include Sigur Ros (2001) and N*E*R*D (2002).
