Blink-182 Raise Money For Ailing Surfer, Rock For Our Troops

Pop punks Blink-182 are teaming up with Taking Back Sunday for a concert next week to benefit professional surfer Jason Bogle, who is suffering from the bone cancer Ewing Sarcoma. The benefit show, taking place September 6 at 4th & B in San Diego, will raise funds to help the uninsured surfer pay his mounting medical bills. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster. According to Billboard, the surfer’s friends and family have already raised around $15,000. Visit jasonboglefund.com for more info.

Blink-182 have taken time out from recording their forthcoming self-titled album, due November 18 through Geffen, for another quite generous act. Rolling Stone.com reports that the boys have just returned from the Middle East, where they played a pair of shows for US servicemen and women. The band’s itinerary while overseas included a gig at a military base in Bahrain and on an aircraft carrier in Kuwait. “We don’t really get involved in the whole political side of things, whether or not we should have gone to war,” wrote Mark Hoppus on the band’s official website. “We’re going over there because these guys are putting their lives on the line.”
