Broken Social Scene Lay Out Lengthy Fall Tour Plans

Incredible Toronto-based music collective The Broken Social Scene will embark on their most ambitious tour to date, playing 38 dates in four countries in just over two months. The band will be supporting one of the best albums of the year (in my humble opinion), You Forgot It In People, which was released earlier this year through Canadian do-it-all record label, art house, production company, etc., Arts&Crafts. BSS will spend the second half of this month and beginning of October touring the East Coast and Midwest before heading overseas for 10 dates. The band will of course be back in the US in time to perform at CMJ, and will then play dates in Canada and on the West Coast.

As the band is a collective of solo artists and musicians from other bands, touring can get tricky. I can imagine scheduling for this tour was a nightmare, but our friends at Arts&Crafts got it done. This is how it will work. Jason Collett, whose album Motor Motel Love Songs will be available in the US October 21, and who is a member of Broken Social Scene, will be the first opener for most dates. The first domestic leg will see Metric as the second opening act. Metric released their debut album, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, through Last Gang/Enjoy this week and has been seeing a bit of specialty airplay over the past few weeks. Emily Haines and James Shaw of Metric are also members of Broken Social Scene. The final North American leg will see Stars as the second opener. The band’s beautiful sophomore album, Heart, is currently available in the US and Canada. Stars’ Evan Cranley is also an official member of Broken Social Scene (confused yet?), while Stars’ Amy Millan sang with the collective on their last tour and is tight with the band as well.

I can’t stress enough the importance of seeing Broken Social Scene live. It’s an experience, and now with an entire evening of Arts&Crafts artists on the bill, it’s going to be even more memorable. See the full itinerary below. Go to these shows!
