It was time for the second half of this weekís Electric Soft Parade double shot last night. I had seen the brothers perform acoustically on Tuesday and last night was a tiny warm-up show, unveiling live versions of their new long player The American Adventure before cranking their tour up for real in October and November at much bigger venues. It was also my first gig at Oxford Streetís 100 Club and I was also looking forward to putting another notch in my live show bedpost.
Met up with BMGís highly talented International guru, Roger Jacobs, for some pre-gig libations and then we crossed over to the 100 Club, walking down the stairs just as the crowd roared to welcome the boys from Brighton onstage. The space was of the variety I donít tend to like: fairly narrow from stage to back, but very long in the other direction. No matter, though, as sonically I had no complaints and the quartet were super tight, especially considering they hadnít been playing this material live very often as of yet. Heavy on new songs, my three faves from last year’s Holes In The Wall still received rocking renditions: ìThereís A Silence,î ìEmpty At The End,î and album opener ìStart Again.î As the new record still hasnít dropped, I donít have any titles except for the first single, ìThings I’ve Done Beforeî which is out imminently. But I can tell you this: I may not know the names of the tracks, but they are of high quality. Now if they can just get inked in the StatesÖthanks again to Roger for the ticket and thanks to Janine Warren, the Amy Lee of Evanescence fanclub member/ESP press queen.
