Galactic Hit The Road In Support Of Automator-Produced New Album

New Orleans-based funk/soul outfit Galactic released their first new studio effort in three years, Ruckus, this week via Sanctuary. Tonight, they will begin the first of 36 headlining dates in support of the highly anticipated new release. Dubbed The Ruckus Tour, the band’s extensive trek will take them from the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC, to the Recher Theatre in Towson, MD, and just about every place in between – except New York or Chicago (damn!). Two hometown Halloween weekend shows on November 1 and 2 are on the itinerary as well, and I can only begin to imagine the craziness that is bound to ensue at those gigs. I’m guessing you may want to leave the trick-or-treaters at home for that one, parents.

Galactic had ambitious goals for their fourth proper album. Constantly touring the country, the band have shared the stage with a number of groundbreaking hip-hip and electronic artists, including The Roots, Lyrics Born, Pharcyde, Kid Koala, and DJ Z-Trip. These different artists inspired the band to pursue a broader sonic palette and new recording techniques. Having been labeled as a jam band, they also focused heavily on songwriting. Drummer Stanton Moore said, “we wrote the old-fashioned way, coming up with verses and choruses, fine-tuning lyrical content.î

Galactic then enlisted the help of Dan The Automator to help them realize their goal. ìMy specific goal was to make an album that was more concise, and had all the hooks of a pop record,î said the Automator. Look for a new Galactic track on the forthcoming Cornerstone Player y’all! It’s pretty dope. Check out the tour itinerary below.
