It’s Official: Phil Spector Charged With Murder

After quite a lengthy investigation, legendary record producer Phil Spector was officially charged with murder. Although it was eclipsed by the Jacko fiasco, the AP reported that Spector, who had been free on $1 million bail since mid-February, was expected to be arraigned yesterday in California. The felony complaint did not specify if prosecutors would seek a first-degree or second-degree murder conviction, though District Attorney’s spokesperson Sandi Gibbons stated that the charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison with a possibility of parole.

The long delay in the arraignment was reportedly due to a number of reasons, including a lengthly sheriff’s investigation, a great deal of evidence to sift through, and original prosecutor Michael Latin being appointed to a judgeship in the last days of Gov. Gray Davis’ administration.

As everyone knows by now, Spector was arrested for investigation of murder after 40-year-old Lana Clarkson, a B-movie actress and model, was found dead in the foyer of his Alhambra, CA, mansion.
