Joey Ramone Place Finally A Reality

It’s been talked about for some time now, years even, but now it’s official. The corner of Bowery and Second Street in NYC has been renamed Joey Ramone Place in honor of the legendary Ramones frontman. The ceremony took place yesterday (November 30) and was preceded by an hour-long tribute to Ramone at CBGBs. Friends family, government officials, and rock colleagues all spoke on his long-lasting impact on music and the city itself. Tommy Ramone, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads, The Dictators frontman Handsome Dick Manitoba and Plasmatics guitarist Richie Stotts were all among the speakers.

After the tribute, fans mobbed the sidewalks and streets to catch a glimpse of the unveiling and according to NME, erupted into a chant of “Hey ho, let’s go” when there was a delay in the presentation.

Bandmate Marky Ramone summed it all up the best when he said, “Joey was the epitome of the perfect singer/frontman. His influence reached global proportions and his legacy will continue to endure forever.”
