Sting To Be Honored As MusiCares Person Of The Year Next Month

A number of stars will be on hand at the February 6 gala event in Los Angeles that will be held to honor Sting as the Musicares person of the year. No, it’s not his ability to have intense, 9-hour-long, tantric sex that landed him the award, but instead his accomplishments as a musician, humanitarian, and environmental activist. High profile artists will be on hand to perform as well, including Tony Bennett, Elvis Costello, Dido, Elton John, Dave Matthews, Rufus Wainwright, John Mayer, Diana Krall, Black Eyed Peas, and K.D. Lang. According to Billboard, proceeds from this star-studded gala will go to benefit the MusicCares Foundation’s financial assistance program.

As stated on their website, “The MusiCares Foundation was established in 1989 by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Inc. with the objective of focusing the attention and resources of the music industry on the health, human service and welfare needs of all music people. MusiCares provides a life-line to music people in need of financial or other assistance.”

Sting will also receive the Billboard Century Award tomorrow, where he will also perform. The show will air live on Fox, beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
