DIG! Ready To Shine At Sundance

Ondi Timoner’s film DIG! is a feature-length documentary about Anton Newcombe, leader of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Dandy Warhols principal Courtney Taylor. Shot over seven years and culled from 1500 hours of footage, DIG! follows the two bands and reveals the inter workings of Taylor and Newcombe’s love/hate relationship. From the moment they met, the Dandy Warhols and Brian Joneestown Massacre quickly bonded over their common goal of nonconformity in the face of the profit-driven music industry. However, their approach in expressing that creativity and originality eventually put them at irreconcilable odds.

In 1996 Anton Newcombe and The Brian Jonestown Massacre – who in a decade independently released 11 albums, 3 recorded in one year – are hell-bent on staging a revolution in the music industry. They are convinced their friends The Dandy Warhols will join them to create a united front and change the industry forever. However, Antonís creative psychosis takes him to the most remote areas of the human mind to find his original art, and as a result, he destroys every opportunity for financial success.

At the same time, the film tracks the Dandys as they seemingly are able to find a happy medium – maintaining their creative integrity, while at the same time starring in mega-budget music videos and entertaining crowds in the tens of thousands.

Narrated by Courtney Taylor himself, DIG! will be screened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
