If the Academy Awards were a sporting event, writers would be using words like ìovermatched,î ìcomprehensive victory,î and ìbeatdownî to describe the outcome. Last night at the 76th Oscars, it was all Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King, all the time. The trilogy finale took home all eleven Oscars it was nominated for, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as both music categories and all the obvious Special Effects and Makeup awards. Mystic River didnítí fare too poorly, either, with the Clint Eastwood-directed flick garnering both male acting awards, Sean Penn for Actor In A Leading Role, and Tim Robbins for Actor In A Supporting Role. The female acting awards followed in the footsteps of the precursor award shows, the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards, with Charlize Theron winning Actress In A Leading Role for her work in Monster, while Renee Zellwegerís role in Cold Mountain won the Oscar for Actress In A Supporting Role.
