Just hours after receiving a standing ovation at a show in New Jersey, rock legend David Crosby was arrested by the NYPD on drug and gun charges. The sixty-two-year-old musician had checked out of the Doubletree Suites Hotel in Times Square after a gig at the B.B. King Blues Club last Friday, but accidently left a piece of luggage behind. When a hotel worker searched the bag for ID, they instead came across a .45-caliber handgun (with 26 rounds of ammo), a hunting knife and an ounce of marijuana. According to Associated Press reports, authorities were waiting for Crosby when he returned to the hotel to pick up his forgotten luggage.
The founding member of The Byrds and Crosby Stills & Nash was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a felony, at his initial hearing. He was also charged with illegal possession of a hunting knife, illegal possession of ammunition and illegal possession of marijuana. The gun charge alone could put Crosby behind bars for up to seven years.
