Sigur Ros, Arab Strap, Others Contribute To Benefit Disc

On May 11, Badman Recording Co. will release a benefit CD for the San Francisco based charity, Shanti Project. Called Shanti Project Collection 3, the release will feature new and rare tracks from Sigur Ros, Arab Strap, Black Heart Procession, Kinski, and Califone, with each band contributing a pair of songs. According to Billboard, Arab Strap and Black Heart Procession recorded their offerings specifically for the comp, while Kinski is using live renditions of their songs “Schedule For Using Pillows And Beanbags” and “Semaphore” that were pulled from an in-studio performance at Seattle’s KEXP. One of Califone’s contributions, “Michigan Girls,” was also nabbed from a radio in-studio performance (VPRO, Amsterdam), while the other is the previously unreleased “Cluck Old Hen.”

Sigur Ros offered up two traditional Icelandic songs, “Bium Bium Bambalo” and “Danarfegnir Og Jaroarfarir” (good luck saying that one correctly). These two tracks were previously available only as part of the soundtrack to the Icelandic film, Englar Alheimsins.

San Francisco’s Shanti Project works to improve the quality of life for people with life-threatening or chronic illnesses.
