Audioslave Making Great Progress On Sophomore Album

The Chris Cornell/Rage Against The Machine amalgam, Audioslave, is currently in Los Angeles, hard at work on the follow-up to their 2002, self-titled debut. Guitarist Tom Morello tells Rolling Stone that, while the band began writing new material after last summer’s Lollapalooza stint, they’re now kicking it into high gear and writing “a song a day.” Though the band has 19 new tracks ready to go, they’re continuing to crank out new material. Using latin (because he’s very intellectual) Morello said, “The modus operandi is we write ’til the well runs dry and then go in and record. You never know . . . the twenty-sixth song might be ‘Cochise.’”

Though unwilling to commit to a possible release date or album title, Morello seems incredibly optimistic. “There’s a breadth and a depth to the music that makes it inspiring to show up at rehearsal every day. There’s ferocious, ripping, riff rock & roll and there’s some stuff that sounds like Audioslave meets Joshua Tree. It’s pretty diverse and beautiful. Chris is singing great, Timmy and Brad sound awesome — it’s good times.”

We’ll keep you posted, as usual.
