For old school MTV heads, this one will hit close to home. Original MTV VJ John “J.J.” Jackson has passed away. Jackson died of what was believed to be a heart attack while driving on Wednesday evening in Los Angeles. Before Jackson rose to prominence as one of the first faces of the fledgling MTV, he had made a career for himself in radio, DJing at KLOS in LA before transitioning over to TV with a job at KABC-TV as a music reporter. When the new cable music channel came calling, he was ready, moving to NYC for a five-year stint, before heading back to Southern California and radio. Jackson was 62.
