Morrissey, Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth Onboard For Lollapalooza

Details surrounding the 2004 edition of the Lollapalooza tour are starting to trickle in. Billboard reports that Morrissey, The Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth, and The String Cheese Incident are among the first acts to be confirmed. Offers are still outstanding to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Le Tigre, and The Fire Theft, among others. This year’s edition will be the first in the tour’s long, rich history to utilize a two-day format, using the extra time to enlist a more diverse line-up. Tour co-founder Marc Geiger (not to be confused with mediocre hoops star Matt Geiger) said, “The only theme to the whole thing is eclectic music not driven by the commercial marketplace.

There are just too many great bands, and the one-day rock festival with 13 acts format has been co-opted by the radio shows,” Geiger says. “What we’re doing is more akin to the great European festivals that originally inspired Lollapalooza, as well as [events like] Coachella and Bonnaroo. The two-day format will once again differentiate Lollapalooza from what everybody else is doing.”

We will keep you up to date with Lollapalooza details as they become available.
