Tidbits ahoy today from frontmen discussing their next records. Noel Gallagher of Oasis, Robert Turner of BRMC and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails are all in the news talking about their upcoming releases, so weíve got the Readerís Digest version for you. Gallagher has told the NME that he is unsure of whether or not the new Oasis album will be finished this year or not. The band ran out of time when recording with Death In Vegas mainstays Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes and are now recording on their own. Gallagher stresses that they ran out of time and did not fire the DiV duo. Also, as rumored, Zak Starkey a.k.a. son of Ringo Starr, will be playing drums for Oasis at Glastonbury, where the band will sadly not be unveiling any new music for the amassed throng, but just working through old favorites.
BRMC frontman Turner, on the other hand, has been discussing his excitement at being let go by Virgin Records. The band did not feel that the label was as supportive as they would have liked and are looking forward to going back to basics and recording on the cheap, even though there currently have offers on the table from other labels. Also, the bandís next album looks to take them in a new direction as Turner also told NME, ì”We want to make a record thatís more rootsy Americana and thatís not really expected right now. We want to keep doing things that are interesting to us. Itís the kind of songs weíve been writing for years.î Turner added that the new tracks had ìnever been able to find their place on our previous albums because they are from another time, theyíre from another sound, so weíre stockpiling songs and itís time they had their day.î The band will record in Philadelphia this summer after wrapping up their Lollapalooza duties.
Reznor has been working on the first Nine Inch Nails record since 1999ís and has returned to his industrial roots for Bleed Through. The album, NINís fourth, is being recorded with Rick Rubin and is has been described as harder and more minimal. In a chat on the NIN website, Reznor told fans, ìOne of the rules of this record has been to orchestrate using only monophonic voices. No chords. Anywhere.î Also, the drums will be sourced from vintage drum machines, as well as live drumming, and loops have bee discouraged in favor of ìwhole takes.î Will this return to the past be just what it takes to break NIN to a new generation?
