Pop-punk icons Green Day have named their first new studio release in four years American Idiot. The follow-up 2000’s Warning, Billboard reports, has been given a tentative release date of September 14 by Reprise records, so we’ve got some time to kill, but I’m sure it’ll be well worth the wait. Fans can also look forward to the release of Live Freaky, Die Freaky, a stop-frame animation horror film staring the voices of Green Day, Benji & Joel Madden, Travis Barker and Tim Armstrong. Armstrong is also composing the film’s score. The film, and an accompanying soundtrack featuring a pair of new Billie Joe songs, will be released soon through Hellcat/Epitaph. It looks pretty crazy. In other Green Day news, the band is expected to contribute a track to the second installment of the incredibly successful Bush-bashing CD series, Rock Against Bush. Put out via Fat Wreck Chords, proceeds from the sale of the compilation go to benefit Punkvoter.com. Other acts slated for inclusion on Vol. 2 are No Doubt, The Foo Fighters and Bad Religion.
