What do you get when you have a movie that contains ìscenes of oral sex and ejaculationî and pair it with alternative guitar music? Thatís right, you have the new film, Nine Songs. Directed by Michael Winterbottom, the movie was unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival and is said to be more than just a little risquÈ, gaining the title ìmost sexually explicit film in the history of mainstream British cinema,î from the UK newspaper The Guardian. Winterbottom, who had previously directed Jude, starring Kate Winslet and Christopher Eccleston, went on to tell The Guardian, ìCinema has been extremely conservative and prudish. I wanted to go to the opposite extreme and show a relationship only through sex. Part of the point of making the film was to say, ‘What’s wrong with showing sex?’” Interspersed with the sex scenes is live performance footage from Franz Ferdinand, Primal Scream, Dandy Warhols, Von Bondies, Super Furry Animals, and BRMC.
