Chicago’s Rachael Yamagata has been making the rounds of late, appearing on Conan, Kilborn (with Toots and the Maytal), CNN’s “The Music Room,” KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” and even finding herself as a featured artist on MTV’s “You Hear It First.” The ball is clearly rolling in preparation for Rachael’s fantastic debut album, Happenstance, and we couldn’t be more excited. Rachael has paid her dues in the Chicago music scene for years and, as a long-time fan, I couldn’t be more happy for her. Happenstance will be released on June 8 through RCA Victor (think Beth Orton meets Fiona Apple and Norah Jones in a back alley fist fight).
Three days after the release of Happenstance, Rachael will embark on the first headlining tour of her career. Having already hit the road with Gomez, Liz Phair and Sondre Lerche (and even opening for David Grey at Madison Square Garden), Rachael is no stranger to the road. Her 15-date headlining tour begins in Louisville, KY, and wraps on July 1 in West Hollywood, CA, hitting New York, Chicago, Seattle, Nashville and even the Bonnarroo Music Festival along the way.
