Have you ever wanted to be a world renowned guitar champion, but lack the style and grace of Eric Clapton, the blazing speed of Steve Vai, or even the elementary guitar knowledge of your 2nd grade next door neighbor? Good news! The second annual US Air Guitar Championships will take place next month, with aspiring air guitar superstars coming out of the woodwork for regional heats in NYC, Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis and Los Angeles. Winners of the five regional heats will move on to a final competition in Los Angeles on June 17 for the American crown. Last year’s inaugural competition drew sell out crowds and extensive media coverage and inspired experienced producers to tape this year’s event for a documentary film. No, we aren’t kidding.
The official US Air Guitar documentary project is being produced by Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of Magical Elves Inc. and they’re no slouches. They are the executive production team behind HBO’s Project Greenlight and NBC’s Last Comic Standing.
