American Idol-esque Show Rock Star In The Works

If there’s one thing this world needs, it’s another glorified nationally televised talent show. So thankfully Survivor and The Apprentice creator Mark Burnett is pitching a new idea for a show called Rock Star. Obviously inspired by American Idol, Rock Star would feature contestants competing for the chance to sing in an established rock act and join the band on a world tour. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Burnett said, “I feel that there’s room on TV for more than one great big talent show, and I feel that rock music has been totally left out of that mix.” He also said that the Rock Star winner will not be entirely chosen by the public. The AP reports that an independent judge and the band itself will also have a say in the selection process.

Burnett would not reveal the identity of the band to Access Hollywood, but MTVnews reports that show will actually search for a new singer for INXS. That definitely makes it interesting, but I’m torn as to whether or not it sucks for the band to take part in this. We shall see.
