Live – Von Bondies Reach Fever Pitch At popscene In San Francisco

It was the night before BFD and all through the houseÖwait, thatís a different story. It was the night before BFD, though, and The Von Bondies were in San Francisco a night early, so the Detroit quartet played an intimate gig at popscene as a warm-up to their set today at Live 105ís summer fest. Their fans were out in force and if last eveningís gig is any harbinger, the kids are going to have a blast today.

Rocking a short 40-minute set, the Von Bondies worked primarily through their strong release from this year, Pawn Shoppe Heart. The guitars roared, Jason Stollsteimerís vocals were album-perfect, and the backing harmonies from Marcie Von Bolen and Carrie Smith were sugary sweet. The albumís title track was memorable, as were ìPoison Ivy,î ìBeen Swank,î and the lyrically clever ìNot That Social.î Of course, the song that got the kids jumping around like four-year-olds on too much Frankenberry was the standout track from the record, the brilliant first single ìCíMon, CíMon.î Played next to last, the band then rocked a final tune before making a triumphant exit, knowing they left the crowd pleading for more, but also realizing theyíd be giving it to some of them today.
