Tripwire Public Service Announcement: Beware Of The Strokes

Over the past few weeks, The Strokes have made their rounds to various radio shows, including Live 105, Y100, KROQ and, most recently, K-Rock New York. Very credible industry sources say, however, that instead of taking the opportunity to play a blistering set and make friends with the stations that support their music, the NYC garage rock poster children have been hell bent on trashing equipment, dressing rooms and fighting with radio peeps. Building upon their bad boy reputation, The Strokes took to the stage over the weekend for K-ROCK’s eighth annual Dysfunctional Family Picnic. A surprise appearance from Jay-Z apparently threw even the Strokes for a loop and caused the kind of drama specifically reserved for big rock shows.

We’re not sure which one, but eyewitnesses say that following the show, a member of the Strokes was running around back stage with a mic stand trying to beat up K-ROCK program director Rob Cross – telling people that if he ever found Cross, he would “kill” him. Obviously inebriated, the Strokes then proceeded to trash their dressing room on the way out.

Radio folks beware. The Strokes are super pissed off about something (no one’s quite figured out what) and they’ll trash stuff if you’re not extra careful and nice to them.
