INXS Reality Show Scooped Up By CBS

Media giant CBS has won a substantial bidding war for the new Mark Burnett-produced reality series that gives aspiring musicians the chance to become the new lead singer of INXS. As previously reported, the show will be a cross between American Idol and Survivor that will feature live performances but will also give viewers a close look at the personalities of the contestants. Now that the show, originally dubbed Rock Star but now untitled, has been picked up, a worldwide search will be underway with auditions in cities all across the US and Canada, as well as in London, Tokyo and Sydney. About a dozen male and female finalists will then be selected to live together in a house in the Hollywood Hills.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show will feature two hours of programming each week – a combination of Real World-esque taped segments that focus on the contestants interpersonal relationships, live performances, and a weekly elimination determined by the members of INXS, viewers and judges.

The ultimate winner will embark on a worldwide tour with INXS as the lead singer and will also sing on the band’s next album.
