London Calling Gets 25th Anniversary Deluxe Reissue

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of The Clash’s landmark album London Calling, Epic Records has announced plans to issue a deluxe Legacy Edition version. Dubbed London Calling: The 25th Anniversary Edition and set to hit shelves on September 21, the release will feature two full CDs of music and a DVD. The original packaging will be expanded with full lyrics, a new historical essay, and rare photos. According to a label spokesperson, the first disc will include the original album in its entirety. The second disc is entitled The Vanilla Tapes and will include previously unheard demos for the album that were recently uncovered in Mick Jones’ storage house.

The DVD component of the new London Calling will be a time capsule of the Clash at the time the album was created. While not completely compiled yet, we do know that it will feature a brand new 45-minute documentary by the band’s longtime biographer and collaborator, Don Letts. It will include interviews with band members, footage of the band in the studio and previously unseen live footage.

We don’t have a complete tracklisting for The Vanilla Tapes or the complete details of the DVD, but we’re pretty sure this is going to be a must-have for music fans young and old come September. If there are any revelations before then, we’ll give you the heads up.
