The Wilco Book To Include Photos, Essays And Unreleased Music

This October, Wilco will release a book that will include a collection of eight-by-ten photographs and essays. Appropriately dubbed The Wilco Book, it will also come packaged with forty minutes of previously unreleased music recorded during the band’s sessions for their most recent album, A Ghost Is Born. Wilco Book co-editor Dan Nadel told Rolling Stone, “We tried to make a book that would reflect the feel of listening to Wilco’s music. Each writer and artist was chosen by the band with the idea that the pieces of writing and photographs would reflect where the band is at this time.” The majority of the writing was actually contributed by the band members themselves, but two other authors managed to sneak their way on. Novelist Rick Moody (The Ice Storm) contributed an original piece and an essay from Henry Miller was also included at the request of Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy.

The forty minutes of unreleased music was recorded over the past couple of years and should be completely new to fans. “It’s songs and jams and ideas and tryouts from the A Ghost Is Born sessions and pre-A Ghost Is Born sessions,” says Nadel. “It’s sequenced by the band as a coherent listening experience, and it definitely has an arc to it. It’s primarily stuff people will have no idea about.”

We’ll give you a heads up when an official release date is set. Until then, go and get A Ghost Is Born. It’s amazing.
