Radio 4, Ted Leo Head To Boston For Democratic National Convention

On July 27, a pair of New York’s finest rock bands will head to Boston to take part in a Music For America-sponsored gig at the Middle East. On the second day of the Democratic National Convention, Radio 4 and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists will unleash their rock goodness for fans of legal voting age and chances are they’ll be discussing the importance of doing anything possible to ensure George W. Bush doesn’t get re-elected in November. Radio 4’s forthcoming album, Stealing Of A Nation, (Aug 7 via Astralwerks) finds the band infusing their trademark dance/rock sound with socially and politically conscious lyrics and, as you might have guessed from the title, they’re not Republicans. Since Beantown will be filled to the brim with Democrats, I’d say the audience will be quite receptive to songs like “State Of Alert,” “The Death Of American Radio” and “Shake The Foundation.” If you’re in Boston on the 27th, stop by and make a difference.

According to their mission statement, “Music for America is a partisan, political non-profit working to turn out our generation at the polls. By exposing the connection between our cultural lives and politics, we are getting our generation to participate in the political process on all levels – whether that means volunteering for a campaign, organizing a local MfA chapter, or just going to a show and having a conversation with some friends. By throwing some kick-ass parties and concerts all across the country we’re building a decentralized movement that encourages our friends to incorporate political participation into their daily lifestyle, and will ultimately bring about lasting, progressive change in this country.”
