Ivy Eying January Release For Fifth Album

Veteran indie pop superstars Ivy currently have seven songs finished for their fifth album, according to Rolling Stone. The trio, made up of the husband and wife team of vocalist Dominique Durand and multi-instrumentalist Andy Chase, as well as Fountains Of Wayne frontman Adam Schlesinger, have seven more songs that they’re putting the finishing touches on in their NYC studio. The trio also had a bit of help on the new set from axe man James Iha and Scott McCloud (not to be confused with Duncan McCloud of the Clan McCloud) of Girls Against Boys, who contributed guitar work and backing vocals, respectively. Did anyone get that Highlander reference? Didn’t think so.

Dominique told Rolling Stone, “We feel it’s much more like [1997's] Apartment Life than [2000's] Long Distance. Apartment Life was much more a live record and less produced than Long Distance. On this one, everything is played live – we have no loops, no drum machines, and there’s not many keyboards. It’s mostly going back to our roots, which is much more pop, light drums and lot of guitars, voice and bass.”

The as-yet-untitled new album has been recored in bits and pieces due to Schlesinger’s touring with Fountains of Wayne and Chase and Durand busy with their side project, Paco, but the trio hope to have it ready for a January 2005 release.
