Dave Chappelle has signed a deal with Comedy Central that will ensure the return of Chappelle’s Show to the network for two more seasons. According to CNN, sources familiar with the deal put it somewhere in the $50 million range. The deal will also give Chappelle a “hefty chunk” of the flourishing DVD sales of Chappelle’s Show, which has already sold 1.7 million copies of the first-season alone. That astonishing figure makes it the highest-selling TV-related DVD of the year. In accordance with the new deal, Chappelle will not only be cut in on a larger portion of DVD sales, but it will also be applied retroactively to the first and second season DVD.
FX and NBC Universal TV were both rumored to have been in talks with Chappelle to bring his talents to their respective networks, but ultimately failed. Chappelle is also said to have already turned down an offer to host the VMAs, however he may consider doing another installment of a stand-up comedy special he previously did though Showtime.
