When Morrissey signed to his favorite ex-reggae imprint, Attack Records, he was given some A&R control over the label. One of the first things he did is ink his longtime friend, Nancy Sinatra, to a record deal. And, on September 28, Sinatra’s self-titled solo album will be in stores. The lead single is a cover of Morrissey’s “Let Me Kiss You”, which features the ex-Smiths man on backing vocals. Other luminaries pop up on Sinatra’s record, as well, as two songs are written by Jarvis Cocker of Pulp, one by Bono and The Edge, Pete Yorn wrote a tune for Sinatra (and sings on the track), as did Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore. Guest musicians include Jon Spencer, fellow Sonic Youth man and Gastr del Sol mainstay Jim O’Rourke, as well as Pulp guitarist Richard Hawley and Smithereens drummer Dennis Diken. Wow. A star-studded affair to be sure.
