Rolling Stones’ Rock And Roll Circus DVD Release Details

Rolling Stones’ 1968 television concert, Rock And Roll Circus, will finally be released on DVD by ABKCO on Oct. 12. Already available on CD and VHS since 1996, the DVD edition is sourced to the original 16mm negatives, while the audio has been remixed in 5.1 Surround Sound. Bonus commentary tracks include Rolling Stones members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Bill Wyman, plus Yoko Ono, Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson, Marianne Faithfull and director Michael Lindsay-Hogg, among others.

FIlmed as a television special but never broadcasted, Rock And Roll Circus features the Stones performing Beggars Banquet-era tracks “Parachute Woman,” “No Expectations,” “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Salt of the Earth”, as well as, current hit at that time, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”. One of the many historic highlights included is the premiere of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, which would debut the following year on the album Let It Bleed.

Among the previously unreleased clips as reported on Billboard, are a backstage meeting between Jagger, Ono and John Lennon, an alternate take of Lennon performing the Beatles’ “Yer Blues” with Mitch Mitchell, Richards and Eric Clapton; three additional Taj Mahal songs; an interview with The Who’s Pete Townshend; and Fatboy Slim’s 2003 remix of the Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil.”
