In a match made in chip-eating, soda-drinking heaven, Netflix and Tivo will soon join forces. Though spokespeople for both companies refuse to comment on the subject, Newsweek reports that an insider who was “close to the negotiations” says the partnership is all but a done deal. Under the new agreement, consumers would be able to download Netflix’s wide selection of movies directly to their Tivos. So now, not only will one not have to make the trek to Blockbuster to get the latest movies, they won’t even have to walk to the mail box. The two companies are expected to unveil their arrangement later this month, which will undoubtedly have other media companies scrambling to catch up.
For those of you living under a bridge or in a cave for the last year or so, Tivo is a device/service that lets users digitally record their favorite TV shows and allows them to pause live TV and fast forward through ads. Netfilx is a new company that currently allows its customers to browse from a huge online catalog and then rent videos through the mail with no late fees.
