The Edge/Jeff Tweedy Ink Songs For Batman/SpongeBob Cartoons

Did you think your dad was cool when you were a kid? Probably, and all he had to do was teach you how to ride a bike and throw a baseball. Two famous rock & roll dads are now upping the ante. Both U2 axeman The Edge and Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy have penned songs for a pair of cartoons. According to MTV News, The Edge has composed and recorded the theme song to the WB’s new The Batman animated series. The show premiered this past Saturday and features the voices of original TV Batman Adam West as Mayor Grange and the uber sexy Gina Gershon as Catwoman.

Jeff Tweedy, on the other hand, not only wrote a song for The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie, but he let his son play a role in the process. The song “Just A Kid” was written specifically for the movie after one of the film’s producers noticed a SpongeBob air freshener hanging in Tweedy’s car in a scene from the Wilco documentary I Am Trying To Break Your Heart.

Tweedy was turned on to SpongeBob by his two sons, Spencer and Sam. “I fell in love with SpongeBob when I heard him describe the darkness at the bottom of the sea as ‘advanced darkness,’” Tweedy told Rolling Stone. “How could I not write a song for this film? It automatically makes me the coolest dad on the block.”

The full Wilco line-up appears on the song, as does Tweedy’s son Spencer’s band, The Blisters. Spencer is eight-years-old and without a doubt, the coolest kid in school.
