Strokes Cancel Proposed Live Album

The industry standard “Foghat Principle” of releasing the live album as the third release has been violated by the Strokes, having just announced plans to scrap their imminent live album of last year’s Christmas shows at London’s Alexandra Palace on CD. The follow up to Is This It and Room On Fire had been planned to be released at the end of 2004. A spokesperson for Strokes lead singer Julian Casablancas told NME.com that he has changed his mind about the record after a visit to the studio to listen to the album after it had been mastered. Apparently quality was an issue. Have no fear, the live record may be shelved but the studio record is still in the works. The Strokes are currently working in New York on their third album with previous producer Gordon Raphael.

In other Strokes news seen on XFM, the band has also recently sent out a two-track CD to members of their fanclub containing two unreleased tracks – a live version of “When It Started” recorded in Iceland and demo track “Elephant Song”, recorded by Albert Hammond Jr. and Julian Casablancas in 1999 for an NYU school project.
