Interscope To Release First Official American Mash-Up

New York-based DJ/Producer DJ Reset will be the first of many like-minded artists to have a mash-up officially released through a major record label in the months to come. Reset’s “Frontin’ On Debra (DJ Reset Mash-Up)” is a hybrid of Beck’s “Debra” (from 1999’s Midnight Vultures) and Pharrell Williams feat. Jay-Z’s “Frontin’” (from 2003’s Neptures Presents: Clones) that also incorporates original drums and beatboxing performed by DJ Reset himself. Already an underground smash, the song has begun getting major-market radio airplay across the US and Europe, including spins on KROQ – Los Angeles, K-Rock – New York, KCRW – Los Angeles, The Edge – Dallas, XFM – London, and others.

I don’t have an official release date yet, but a press release from DJ Reset says the mash-up will be available “soon” through Interscope. “Frontin’ On Debra” is offline this week, but it can normally be downloaded/streamed via Reset’s official website. He has some other mash-ups available, so it’d be worth checking out.

Mash-ups are fast becoming treasured gems among serious electronic, rock and hip-hop fans alike. With the ability of labels to easily distribute these songs as singles via internet download services like iTunes, I’d expect the “mash-up” genre (if you can call it that) to explode in the months to come.
