Snow Patrol Eye Spring 2005 To Work On New Album

Scottish rock troupe Snow Patrol is currently touring the US in support of their US debut (third over album) Final Straw. Though an incredibly prolific songwriter, Snow Patrol main man Gary Lightbody struggles with writing new material on the road. Speaking with Billboard Gary said, “I got wind that Franz Ferdinand has basically finished their new album and I was kind of green with envy, I have to say. If there’s a U.K. band that had toured [the United States] more than us lately, it’s Franz Ferdinand. Whenever we do get the odd few days off in Glasgow or Belfast, we try to do a wee bit of writing. But after you’ve done your washing and paid your bills, you really just want to sit in front of the TV!”

For that reason, Snow Patrol is not going to officially start working on their new album until next spring with hopes of releasing it in the fall of 2005. With next year packed full of Snow Patrol commitments, it’s looking like a new Reindeer Section album won’t be started until 2006 at the earliest. For those that don’t know, The Reindeer Section is a super group side project of sorts helmed by Lightbody with a rotating cast of contributors. 2002’s Son Of Evil Reindeer featured members of Arab Strap, Belle & Sebastian, Teenage Fanclub, and Idlewild.

“We will definitely make another Reindeer Section album – I can say that completely hand to God,” he told Billboard. “I’ve spoken to nearly everybody that was involved in the last one, and they’re all really keen to do another one. I’ve also had inquiries from some rather big, interesting names, so it could be a stellar cast. It was the last time out, but it may be even more so this time.”
