Malkmus Finishing Up Third Solo LP

Stephen Malkmus, former frontman of indie pioneers Pavement, is putting the “finishing touches”, as they say, on the follow up to 2003’s Pig Lib. However, don’t get your hopes up about the as-yet-untitled third album seeing the light of day in time for the holidays, as it’s not expected to hit shelves until April or May of next year. Fans who absolutely can’t wait that long to hear new Malkmus music can scoop up the Matador records 15th anniversary compilation on October 12. That set sports a pair of new (though road tested) Malkmus songs, “Baby Come On” and “It Kills”.

“I did more of it myself, a little bit like the old Pavement records,” Malkmus told Billboard. “Because the studio was in my basement, I took the helm. I pretty much engineered it myself; punching in with my toe, Todd Rundgren-style. I think it has come out pretty good, but I’m looking for some extra ears to make sure it’s as good as I think it is.”

Pavement fans will be happy to know that following the release of the Matador anniversary comp, on October 26 to be exact, the label will drop a 10th anniversary edition of Pavement’s 1994 album Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. Officially titled Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain: LA’s Desert Origins, the album boasts 11 previously-unreleased tracks. It’s a must have for any former, current or potential indie rocker.
