White Stripes Feel The Wrath Of James Diamond

Not all is well in the magical world of Detroit. Success can bring a band money, fame, and lawsuits from pissed off collaborators. It is pretty much a given that if you are from Motor City and you record an album, somehow James Diamond will be involved. This is exactly what happened on the White Stripes debut record. According to NME, Diamond claims he collaborated and co-produced the album with Jack and Meg White, and is now suing the band. The court papers filed state that he provided “additional artistic suggestions, supervision and contributions.” Diamond is looking for some monetary treats from the White Stripes, including royalties from the sessions, partial ownership in the master tapes, and a cut of any future profits. Jack and Meg are defending themselves, saying that the legal action is “without merit.”

The White Stripes have had plenty of defending to do already this year. In July they had to crush rumors swirling around about a potential break-up of the band. Jack White extinguished that fire when he told NME, “At some point we’ll stop, but we’ve no plans to now at all. I’ve got a lot of ideas for records for us coming up and the time off has been really re-inspiring.” The next release from the White Stripes will be a live DVD, Under The Blackpool Lights, due out on November 23.
