Gorillaz Look To Danger Mouse To Head Up New Album

Remember the group of animated rock stars started by Blur’s Damn Albarn and Tank Girl creator Jamie Hewlett that took the world by storm way back in 2001? The group’s self-titled debut was a hit with hip hop and rock fans alike, as it featured vocal contributions from Del The Funky Homosapian and De La Soul and production work by genre-bending knob twister Dan The Automator. The group’s new album is currently underway, but it seems Albarn has decided to go with a new hip-hop/rock melding expert to man the helm instead of The Automator. According to Pitchfork, Grey Album mastermind DJ Danger Mouse has usurped the position once held by Dan The Automator and is currently in the UK working with Albarn (who will co-produce the record).

Danger Mouse told MTV News, “We’re pretty deep into it. We’re both very excited about what’s happening musically and I think it’ll surprise a lot of people.” A number of guest performers are sure to be making contributions to the as-yet-untitled new album, as was the case with past efforts. De La Soul are already confirmed.

When more details surface, we’ll let you know.
