XFM Sheds Some More Light On Band Aid

Now with the election news coming to a close this year it is time to focus on other issues in the world. No, I am not talking about Britney Spears new china pattern. I am talking about charities and the giving spirit. As we get closer to the holidays it seems like people always want to do more for their fellow man.

Speaking of doing something for their fellow man, the folks over at XFM in London have revealed more details on Band Aid, including everything from confirmed artists to who will be doing the cover art. Paul McCartney has agreed to play bass, while Bono has also agreed to be involved and will reprise the line “Well tonight thank God it’s them instead of you” which he sang on the original version back in 1984. Chris Martin from Coldplay will have the duties of singing the opening line “It’s Christmas time, and there’s no need to be afraid…”. Martin will also play piano on the track while Supergrass’ Danny Goffey will provide the drums and Fran Healy (Travis) and Justin Hawkins from The Darkness will play guitar. Unfortunately, Damon Albarn and Noel Gallager are out of the recording altogether.

Of course, you didn’t think you would get out of this without a poll would you? According to XFM, 36% of the British listeners would rather have Pete Doherty and Carl Barat sing the opening line. Chris Martin is just behind (12%) followed by Matt Bellamy (9%), Alex Kapranos (7%) and Thom Yorke (7%).

Finally, on the art front, Damien Hirst is slated to contribute the sleeve art. He is an influential young British artist whose works are known for their controversial subject matter. Hirst works with a variety of media but is probably best known for his series involving animals preserved in formaldehyde.

Nothing says “Happy Holidays” like Rudolph and Prancer preserved in beautiful jars of formaldehyde next to the fireplace. Bring on the holiday cheer!
