Ben Folds Readies New Album

Now that he is done spooning with William Shatner, Ben Folds has finally completed the follow-up album to his solo debut “Rockin’ The Suburbs.” According to NME, Folds recorded and produced the album throughout October in Nashville. He was backed by bassist Jared Reynolds and drummer Lindsay Jamleson, and will even feature a guest appearance by Weird Al Yankovic. Can we expect a remake of “Like A Surgeon” or “Eat It”? We can only hope.

One thing we can expect on this not-titled-yet album is a tribute song for Elliott Smith, called “Late”. Smith toured along with Folds in 1998 during the days of Ben Folds Five. About the song, Folds told Rolling Stone: “The lyrics of the song are about people who are sharing your experience too – ‘Oh, Elliott Smith did this club last night, and he sat in that same room and read all the shit about dicks and asses on the wall.’ Poets like to talk about how they look up and see the same stars, and I think rock musicians all look up and see the same dicks on the walls.” Dicks and asses, a winning combination for a tribute song. The album is slated for release sometime in February.
