We are always looking for the magic to return. Morrissey gets back with Johnny Marr. The Stone Roses reform. Gene gets back with Jezebel. But alas, look who beats them all. The Who plan to release their first studio album in 23 years in 2005, reports NME. Although they have kept busy with tours through the years, including headlining this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival in the UK, this is the first studio record since 1982’s It’s Hard. The band’s guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend, on his official website petetownshend.co.uk, says the new Who album “will not be a concept album” and that he and the other surviving member, singer Roger Daltrey, will meet before Christmas to work through the new songs. Townshend wrote: “If the recording works out we will tour with the usual band [Pino Palladino on bass and Zak Starkey on drums] in the first half of 2005.”
It’s also reported that, as well as the record and a tour, Townsend is also hard at work on his autobiography, to be titled Who He?. Quoting Pete, “I am really enjoying this, and would do what Bob Dylan has done and put out my early years first, were it not for the fact that I was arrested early in 2003. My autobiography now offers me the chance to lay down my life story and place recent events in proper context. I have had a long and lumbering life – this book will take time.”
Big ups for the departed Keith Moon and John Entwistle. Ye “Moon the Loon”, ye “Ox” not be forgotten.
