Flaming Lips Documentary Due In March

The Flaming Lips have just added yet another release for 2005, this time in the form of a documentary. The DVD release, titled My Life With The Fearless Freaks, will land in stores on March 23rd. Directed by longtime Lips friend Bradley Beesley, the film focuses on the personal lives of Wayne Coyne, Steven Drodz, and Michael Ivins. This is far from a happy installment of Behind The Music, as this shows the gritty dark past of the band. Beesley told Rolling Stone: “I’ve got some pretty intimate footage of Steven using drugs and talking about how drugs destroyed his life, as they’re destroying his life. It’s not like a VH1 thing where the guy talks about shooting up like ten years ago. I was capturing it literally as he was shooting up.”

On a lighter note, the film will feature rock cameos from Jack White, Beck, Mercury Rev’s Jonathan Donahue, and many others. It will also feature a sneak peek of the Lips upcoming holiday film Christmas On Mars, due out in December 2005. In the meantime, make sure you check out the band’s contribution to the SpongeBob SquarePants movie soundtrack. You can watch the video for “SpongeBob And Patrick Confront The Psychic Wall Of Energy” here.
