The ever changing face of radio has added a new name in the world of satallite radio when Sirius named former #2 Viacom honcho Mel Karmazin as its CEO. Co-President Scott Greenstein said, “Mel Karmazin is a legend in the entertainment industry and can help us build the new medium of satellite radio.” The future home to Howard Stern, Sirius is serious about the satellite market. As it happens, Stern was on David Letterman last night commenting on his career and move to Sirius. “Because of the government regulation, my syndication business has been stopped cold,” Stern said while discussing his efforts against President Bush during the election. “I was on my way to being on all over the country. I can’t syndicate my show any more. Radio stations are deathly afraid of the religious right. They are afraid of the Bush administration and they are afraid to get on the wrong side of some guy named Michael Powell.”
An interesting story in that a highly controvertial person is championing for everyone’s rights, sort of like a modern day Larry Flint. Say what you will, the government and hypocracy are now more one in the same than ever. More can be found here.
