Libertines’ Carl Barat Unleashes New Supergroup

Gee whiz Batman! There is a new supergroup threatening to take over Gotham City! The leader of this gang happens to be The Libertines’ Carl Barat, who has been in the music gossip pages about this possible supergroup for the past several weeks. Barat has made it public that he intends on breaking up The Libertines at the end of this year, so it is no surprise that The Chavs have just held their first performance.

The mighty superheroes that comprise this elite group include Tim Burgess of the Charlatans, Martin Duffy of Primal Scream, and Razorlight’s Andy Burrows. According to NME, the band performed several songs written by Burgess, along with a few Libertines tunes and a cover of “Fairytale Of New York”. The Chavs’ debut performance took place at a very fitting venue: The Tap And Tin in Chatham. This was the spot made famous for the infamous Libertines gig that happened the night Pete Doherty was released from prison for burglarizing Barat’s apartment. This performance marked Barat’s first ever venture outside The Libertines, and we hope to see even more from him in 2005.
