Psychedelic Furs To Record New Album… Eventually

With the 80’s revival going on revolving around bands such as The Killers, it is no surprise to see new wave icons reappearing with new albums. Duran Duran, Erasure, The Cure, the old grandpappies of alt-rock have woken from their slumber, and you can now add the Psychedelic Furs to that list. The Furs have spent over ten years away from the studio, and it looks like a new album is finally looming on their horizon.

The band has been testing out new songs while on the road, including “Cigarette”, “Wrong Train”, and “Alive”. According to Rolling Stone, the album will be recorded and self-produced in guitarist John Ashton’s home studio in New York. The band is taking their sweet time with the recording process, and may not release the new album until late 2005 or possibly early 2006. The Furs have no label deal, and are looking to stay away from a contract for as long as possible. Frontman Richard Butler said: “We don’t need the advance. We paid for this ourselves.”

In the meantime, Butler is working on a solo album, which has been eating up quite a bit of his time. The band has been communicating musical ideas via tapes while Butler puts the finishing touches on his record. So, we still have quite a ways to go until the new Furs record sees the light of day.
