Tsunami Benefit Concert Being Planned In Cardiff

A benefit concert for victims of the Asian tsunami is tentatively set for January 22 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. The chiefs at the stadium are confident that they will not only be able to piece this event together in less than three weeks, but will also meet their target goal of raising £1 million. According to XFM, stadium manager Paul Sergeant is in talks with U2, Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, and The Darkness, although no bands have been confirmed. Sergeant did say that he is expecting to create an “event of international proportions.”

About the event, Sergeant said: “As soon as the enormity of the disaster was known we opened discussions with a number of musical agents to see if it would be possible to get a money-spinning event up and running.”

“We have the experience of hosting major concerts at the Millennium Stadium and we could easily accommodate 50,000 or more fans at a charity event. It would give everyone the chance to do their bit and would considerably boost the £3m already raised in Wales for the disaster fund.” Cheers to the fine folks in Cardiff for planning such an important event. Perhaps somebody in the US will follow their lead and will plan a similar benefit. Until then, make sure you donate to organizations such as the American Red Cross.
