John Peel Successor Announced

It has been on the minds of everyone. Who would replace the irreplaceable John Peel on BBC Radio 1? NME confirmed today that the show will be succeeded by One Music, three shows hosted by three DJs who aim to champion a “diverse, unpredictable, and noncommercial mix of new music”. The new show is hosted by Huw Stephens, Ras Kwame, and Rob Da Bank.

Set to debut February 1, Controller of Radio 1 Andy Parfitt said: “As a DJ John Peel was unique. Supporting new music and seeking out the unusual was at the heart of what John was about. We have spent a long time debating how best to continue John’s work and believe that by having a series of DJs hosting a selection of shows under the One Music title, we will ensure that his legacy lives on. I grew up listening to John so it is a massive honor to be able to carry on the work that he did championing new music for so many years. No-one will be able to fill John’s shoes but we can at least make sure his inspiration keeps us hunting out the next musical gem.”
